We look forward to The Book Council of Australia, book of the year awards celebrating our talented authors and illustrators during book week in August each year. We love seeing students creatively celebrating their favourite book characters during our whole school parade on Friday morning. Each year a fabulous Australian illustrator and theme is chosen to inspire us all with decorations and costumes. In 2023 Matt Ottley has illustrated our new theme of READ, GROW, INSPIRE and we hope you'll enjoy finding an inspiring book character or just as happily stick with a favourite character. Here are some things to keep in mind as we don't expect elaborate costumes, just some creative fun (there are also many characters that will fit with free dress, if dressing up is not your thing)!
We would ask that students choose an appropriate character that fits within our College expectations and can bring the book along (or picture of the front cover). Keep in mind that they will participate with regular school activities after parade (some year levels may be asked to change into sports uniform). A few pictures below to inspire some classic characters... Lewis Caroll; Alice in Wonderland, C.S. Lewis; Narnia, J.R.R. Tolkien; The Hobbit, Eric Cale; The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Dr Suess; The Cat in the Hat, Roald Dahl; James & the Giant Peach, Aaron Blabey; Bad Guys, Herge; Tin Tin & Snowy, Sally Rippin; Billie B Brown, Dorothy Wall; Blinky Bill & Nutsy. It doesn't end here, there's lots of dinosaur or animal books so as long as your child makes a connection with a book that they love or maybe someone else there's sure to be plenty of DIY costume ideas. If you have any queries please don't hesitate to get in touch, we hope you can enjoy this long lasting school memory! |
